ANIMATION BLOCK PARTY IS CLOSED FOR SUBMISSIONS UNTIL JANUARY 2010.
The 2009 Animation Block Party lineup will be announced on this website on June 30th.
The award categories in ABP 2009 are: minute movie, best in show, original design, music video, narrative short, audience award, student film, computer animation, experimental and documentary short.
ABP prizes include copies of Adobe After Effects, Toon Boom Studio, Boinx I-Stop Motion, designer bags from Crumpler, subscriptions to Animation Magazine, cool DVDs and a special production grant for best student film.
This summer's jury includes animation director, JJ Sedelmeier, Perfectland
creator, Ben Meinhardt, Disney designer, Dan Haskett and NYU animation's
Elizabeth Morringello.
Basic Rules of Submission:
ALL animation films must be in the time range of 30 seconds to 20 minutes. Animation only. No live-action. Multimedia pieces containing live-action elements may be considered, but works should be primarily animated, so keep this in mind before sending a short film that has non-animation elements like Hi-8 footage, photography or any element, which is not animation specific.
You may submit more than one film, but please submit a separate entry for each film you submit. If sending two or more animations, you may write one check / money order for all films. Be certain to add total fees on check, as work will be rejected if you send more than one piece and do not enclose proper submission fees.
We showcase all genres and styles of animation shorts, with award categories for best narrative, experimental, computer, student film, music video, documentary short, minute movie, original design and more.
What to send us and what we'll do with your movie:
Our submission preference is Mini-DV NTSC or an NTSC QuickTime burnt onto a CD or DVD. Preferred QuickTime formats are: H.264 Compression, Animation Compression or DV-NTSC. Preferred frame rate is 29.97. We cannot play PAL media. Please do not send anything in PAL. DVD's that play universally (all regions) are fine as well, but NTSC works best for us. You may also submit your entry on NTSC VHS, but take note of our preferred submission.
Please be sure to label the spine of your submission with your film's title and animator contact information. If submitting more than one short, you must fill out a separate entry form for that film and pay an additional submission fee.
Please put your contact information on ALL MEDIA.
Do not send us your only copy of your animation.
Any materials you send us will not be returned.
Animation Block Party will take place from July 24-26 of 2009 in Brooklyn, New York at Rooftop Films and Bam Cinematek.
By entering your animation for consideration, you attest that you hold all right to exhibit the given work. You have read, understand, and agree to all Animation Block Party entry guidelines and requirements
