Animation Block Party 2013

The Tenth Annual Animation Block Party kicked off on July 25th with an Opening Night concert at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Adam Green and Binki Shapiro headlined the event with an opening performance by Hooray For Earth. Les Savy Fav frontman and comedian Tim Harrington hosted. The evening featured exclusives from Cartoon Network (Steven Universe, Clarence) Nickelodeon (Breadwinners) and Pixar (The Blue Umbrella).

ABP 2013 official festival screenings commenced on Friday, July 26th at Rooftop Films and continued at BAMcinématek on Saturday, July 27th and Sunday, July 28th. Over 90 short films screened in competition. Special programs included Beavis and Butt-head Do America, Secret of NIMH and a screening of Jerry Beck Presents 1960’s Oscar Shorts.

Animation Block Party held it's first ever Saturday Night Party at the BAM Fisher, a brand new space at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The evening featured carnival and arcade games, streaming videos, ping pong, Sakura Art drawing station, photo booth, Brooklyn Brewery beer, Brooklyn Gin, food, wine a roof deck - and much more.

ABP 2013 festival screenings commence on Friday, July 26th at Rooftop Films, located at the Greenpoint High School for Engineering and Automotive Technology - 50 Bedford Avenue, Williamsburg. Brooklyn NY 11222.

The evening will feature live music followed by an outdoor screening, featuring international cartoons, exceptional student films, world premieres and visually stunning shorts.

Doors to ABP @ Rooftop Films on July 26th will open at 8pm for live-music and the ABP screenings will start around 9pm. There will be an intermission after Passer Passer.

Animation Block Party continues on Saturday, July 27th at BAMcinématek located at the Peter Sharp Building, 30 Lafayette Avenue in Brooklyn, NY 11217.

ABP Saturday at BAMcinématek features five different animation programs. A special screening at noon will feature Animation for Kids. The 2pm slot offers a screening of Experimental Films, Motion Graphics, Design Shorts and Music Videos. At 4:30pm, there will be a silent film screening from Tom Stathes’ Cartoons On Film. The 7pm show is the first of two individual International Shorts programs. At 9:30pm, there will be a 35mm screening of Beavis and Butt-head Do America.

The closing evening after party will start around 9:30pm at Habana Outpost at 757 Fulton Street, Brooklyn and features free Six Point Ale and delicious Habana corn.

Please bring movie ticket to Matchless/Habana parties for proof of fest attendance or get a wristband from ABP staff members before leaving screening venues. Must have proof of ticket purchase to access free beer on Friday and Sunday night. All moviegoers who purchase tickets to ABP Saturday shows at the Brooklyn Academy of Music will have access to the Saturday Night Party at the BAM Fisher.

The ABP 2013 jury includes Jerry BeckCarrie MillerDevin Clark and Scout Raskin. Award categories are Student Film, Best in Show, Audience Award, Narrative Short, Computer Animation, Minute Movie, Original Design, Music Video, Experimental Animation and Animation for Kids.

Prizes include software from Toon BoomDigiCel FlipBookDragon Stop Motion, art supplies from Sakura, designer bags from Crumpler, T-Shirts and DVDs. ABP jury awards will be announced at www.animationblock.com the day after the festival.
